How? (From Coffee on Tuesday)

The following is a column posted as a MySpace bulletin on November 21, 2008. My modern day commentary can be found after my italicized signature.

How?

Ask yourself this question in everything you do. If we took one second out of our day, before we act, or even speak, to ask ourself "How?", we can save our jobs, money, relationships, and even our lives. When I broke up with Kathryne for Bianca and was convinced that our relationship was going to work, I should have asked myself, "How is this relationship going to work?". When I lost my job at PacSun in August I should have asked myself, "How am I going to get my job back?". When Sandra moved away I acually DID ask myself, "How am I going to survive English this year?". And right now I'm asking myself, "How do I have time to write another blog?".

Sometimes your how questions aren't answered by others, but by yourself. This year I asked myself some "How?" questions and I actually answered them.

"How can I be a better student?"

Well, I can do my work for a change.

"How can I be a better boyfriend?"

I can be less demanding and more sincere.

"How can I be a better Christian?"

Well, I can start by going to church.

"How can I be a better friend?"

Well, when I'm told a secret, i can actually keep it.

Everyday if you stop to ask yourself "How?", about everything, life will be so much easier for you, your friends, and your family.

Ok, so, this is my first blog in over a month and there's nothing good? No Kat stories? No relationship news? Nothing? I'm sorry guys, sadly I've only spoken with Kathryne a few times since my last blog.

But, what about homecoming?

I'll save this one for later

Now you find yourself asking yourself "How can he do this to us?" Congratulations! Your first "How?" question.

I don’t even remember which homecoming I was talking about or why I resolved to ‘save this one for later.’ Based on Bianca’s name being present, I think I remember that I was talking about going to homecoming and trying to dance with her.

NO! Here’s what happened! The dance was winding down. Kathryne and her best friend, Morgan, and a few other mutual friends were upstairs in the loft of the Mitten Building in Redlands. I had spent most of the night trying to get Bianca’s attention and to show her I was a Prince Charming type; I was very big on portraying this Image back then. All I got out of it was a wife.

As the night wrapped up, I walked upstairs to tell Bianca goodbye. I asked her if I could walk her out and she said I could, but that she was barefoot and needed to put her shoes back on. Taking the Prince Charming character at its literal face value, I grabbed her shoe, knelt down on my knee and slid the shoe on her foot. Kathryne and Morgan watched from another table. I stood up, looked over at them and smirked. Long after the Bianca era was over, this is something Kathyrne and Morgan made fun of me for. I thought it was charming. They thought it was overkill and creepy. Fuck Coffee on Tuesday, this blog should have been called “I Thought it Was Charming by Brendon Joshua.”

The real ‘how’ question is “How did I not see it the whole time?”
